I woke up this morning to my husband freeking out about "A FOOT OF SNOW" outside. I'm like sure there's a foot of snow that fell in the 8 hours I was asleep. Well I look out the window and yup he was right there's over a foot of snow that fell and it keeps coming down. Needless to say I'm not going to work tonight and my dogs are going to enjoy staying inside most of the day. I let them out to go potty and they both stared at me like.. "you want me to do what outside, ya right". So out I went to dig a trench for potty time and then promptly grabbed the camera for some much needed snow pictures to prove that yes I do indeed have over a foot of snow at my house. I do like how Dag is following Jasmine through her trenches so he doesn't get too cold. He did though venture to the tree in the yard to pee on it, and then came right back. Silly boy.

Without further ado, Corgi snow party. Boy does Jasmine love snow.

Good News :)

Well I have good news :) I'm going back to work on a day shift :) :) That means no more marathon night shifts and taking the dogs to work with me every night! YAY. I am going back to an old job of mine working for the Purrfect Pals cat shelter working in their Veterinary clinic. I start back there in two weeks, so that means only two more weeks of staying up all night.

In other news, Dag and Jasmine are being good dogs. Well they always are but they do test me on occasion whether it's defluffing toys or chewing on things that are not dog toys. Dag has for the moment, stopped chewing on wooden things, even with full access to the cat room. He's been good about realizing what Cat toys are and what dog toys are, smart boy. Jasmine is on the fat dog diet as somehow she's gotten a little pudgy in the last month or so :( she is not pleased. Dag has been switched to buffalo and venison from Jasmine's Wellness Core Oceanfish diet as it was not agreeing with his tummy anymore. He is very happy and is putting on weight again :) He's a scant 32# and he is thin. He definitely needs some weight to look his best. I'm thinking of getting him some more ring experience soon to keep him up to snuff. Anyway here are some pictures of tonight and please ignore the weird angle as it's a little off from my lack of photography skills tonight. 0.o I'm glad to see he's growing up, with more weight I think he'll look a lot better. Now for some more roadwork with him. I've been slacking due to it being pitch black when I'm getting up and going to sleep. Now that I'm going to be back to a real job I'll have time for more walks which the dogs will enjoy.

Christmas Time

Well it's official in my house now, it's Christmas time. The tree went up this weekend and there is a wreath on the front door, and that's the extent of it. We really just don't do a lot of decorating for holidays but the tree makes me happy. Dag on the other hand is thankfully not interested in the tree he's more like "Mom WTF is that GIANT thing in the living room?!?!?" He gives it a really wide berth and keeps away from it, but I still don't trust him. He goes in his crate when we leave as we really don't want to come home to a decapitated tree.

As for other news Jasmine is officially going to preferred in Agility and is never running in dirt again. Last weekend we knocked bars in both jumpers and standard. She has been occasionally knocking a bar in class but it's been attributed to me pulling off to early and causing her to drop her hind end. The first bar dropped at the trial was my fault completely as I pulled off over a wider jump so she wouldn't take the tunnel in front of her and I saw her back end drop :( The Standard class again it was a wide jump, the FIRST jump, and down came the bars :( It also didn't help that it was a nice "warm" 32 degrees and we were in a horse arena with very little heat. I was not pleased as I was freezing and so was Jasmine even after a 5 minute Jog and a 15 minute warm up walk. It was a cold and crappy weekend.

To end the weekend, I woke up on Tuesday before work Sick. Yup completely sick. I stayed home yesterday but I'm feeling a tad bit better today so I'll head to work and hope its slow.

Off to Target for cold medicine and soup. Hope everyone has a Happy holiday season.

Dag at 13 months

So I'm finally slowed down at work and realized I haven't updated any pictures of Dag aka Dagwoo that bad dog. So without further ado, some not the greatest pictures, but I did them all myself with no help. I think his chest is starting to come down some since the first puppy pictures I have and I'm gonna see how he does next month in the ring. Hopefully the bad dog will get some more coat and grow up some more but it all takes time. He is still splayed in his left front and I don't know why. He was a little splayed as a puppy and now it's more obvious to me. Any ideas? too much turn or ? The third diget (count from the dewclaw out) is/ has always been raised up higher than the other toes and I'm thinking puppy injury? but it all just seems more obvious to me. I really think his shoulder is looking nicer and his movement is better as I've been working on going faster with him cause he can MOVE I just have to keep up with him.

He does look a little roached in the picture but it's the angle cause I just looked at him again and there is no roach when stacked.

So Dag my good little boy has decided that he's a 8 week old puppy again and is chewing on EVERYTHING. Not just his chew bones but the TV trays, the Kitchen table, and lastly tonight at work his collar. Yuppers, his collar was found in his kennel in pieces ( insert very angry mom here). I have NO idea what his problem is, he's exercised, entertained, trained but must chew on something. I've started feeding him in his Cube toy/treat despenser and doing more training with him but OMG if he does not stop my husband might de-tooth him. J/K

Has anyone else experienced a late adolescent chewer?

Ok.. lets start of by saying tonight has been a crazy night at work but this person takes the cake with being dumb.

client "Hi my Dan Welsh Corgi just ate a brownie."

me "Pardon, your what just ate a brownie?"

"my Dan Welsh Corgi"

"I'm sorry I'm not familiar with that breed how much does it weigh?"

"about 45-50 pounds"

"Ok and how many brownies did it eat?"

"Oh just one. Is he gonna die?"

"No mam' one brownie is not going to kill him. He'll probably just get an upset stomach." then I proceeded to go over other symptoms to watch for all while going (0.o) Dan Welsh Corgi?!?!??!

I am always amused when people have no clue what their dog is. I even googled it to see if there was some BYB selling corgi pups as a Dan Welsh Corgi and nope not a single thing. I have no idea what type of dog she has but I do pray that it's fixed.

Oh the calls I get at 2 am.

Catching up

Well it's been forever since I actually posted something on here. I've been a very busy lady between working 50+ hrs a week to going to dog classes twice a week to trying to have a social life I'm pooped. I'm finally done with my super hours at work, back to my normal schedule, for the moment, and am finding time for myself.

Dag and Jasmine have been hard at work becoming good dogs. Jasmine is doing great in agility and will be entered in some shows come January, just have to get her up to snuff. I'm planning on getting her NAJ and then dropping her to preferred as she is 6years old now and with her extreme out-turned front I'd like to keep her from breaking down anytime soon. With lots of low impact exercise and keeping her muscular I hope to keep her competitive for years to come.

Dag is now doing Rally and getting better each week. He's a lot slower at learning than Jasmine but Jasmine spoiled me and you know it really is much easier to train with one dog. Jasmine continually tries to butt in to what we are doing just to show me all of her tricks and get a cookie. Dag just stares at her like 0.o Silly boy. We're taking some time off from conformation to let Dag turn into a man since right now he's in that I'm an in between gawky teenage boy who has masculine features but still has acne :) Alas he will grow up to be a good looking man it will just take time.

I haven't taken any pictures of him in a while mainly cause I've been so dang busy but I promise to get some new ones up soon, as everyone needs a bath including the cats. I do find it quite amusing that out of all of my animals Jasmine is the only one who hates Bath time. I can't keep the dog out of a lake but when it comes to getting clean she runs for the hills. It's not that she's afraid of the tub since when I take a bath she tries to join me and play in it, it's the fact that she does NOT want to be clean. I swear the second she's out of a bath she runs outside to find the closest pile of bunny poop and roll in it. Mud puddle?? She's in it. She constantly has grass stains from rolling in god knows what in the lawn and SHE's supposed to be a pretty girl. Guess she's just a tomboy. Dag really is a pretty boy though, as soon as he's bathed he stays clean for a long time.

Well I guess I should get back to work. Long night, full moon, people with no teeth. It all makes for a very entertaining night.

My one plea to everyone is to Please Please PLEASE keep all of your medications far far away from your pets. Tonight I've seen two overdoses, one fatal (7month pup) and one may not make it through the night. Both could have been prevented by just keeping the medications in the bathroom and out of dogs reach.

Eww eww and more eww. FLEAS

GAH.. Let me just start off by saying, I've never had a problem with fleas on my animals even though they go with me to work at the vet 3 days a week. They are routinely on Advantage and get regular baths (much to Jasmine's dislike).

Tonight a "good Samaritan" (using the term loosely as we do not house stray animals) brings in this little terrier mix that tried to go into a department store. Well she says's either we will take the animal or she'll let it go in our parking lot. Nice lady huh. Anyway we take in the dog and it's COVERED in fleas. Not just a few but a complete moving wave of fleas. Well since we don't keep unvaccinated unowed animals within our hospitalized patients, we move him straight to isolation and apply Frontline and give Capstar. For those of you who are not familiar with Capstar, it's a oral tablet that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is short acting. Great for getting rid of the fleas that are already on the pet and the Frontline keeps fleas from reproducing.

Well obviously about oh 100 flea's jumped ship between the front door and Isolation. Well guess where the all ended up? Yup you guessed it, on my DOG!

Poor Dag had flea's all over his scrotum, they were all over the floor. OMG they are everywhere. Needless to say everyone in the hospital has just been treated for fleas as a precaution. Dag got Capstar and Advantage again and I'm sitting here now pulling off fleas as they die. I stopped counting at 50. Gah I hate fleas.

So poor Dag has had a not so fun night of being eaten alive because of some not so nice good Samaratin decided to be a poop and dump a dog on us.

I now feel like I have fleas all over me. Again. I hate fleas.

Gah. My pocket book hurts but Richland is paid for. Good thing I've been working my butt off at work with extra hours to pay for shows. Hotel, paid. Show fees, paid. New dog show clothes, check. Clean dog....... well gonna have to work on that one. He's one FILTHY boy at the moment. Guess I'm gonna have to break out the whitening shampoo here soon. He's been enjoying being a boy and playing in the lake, then the dirt, then the lake like a good boy should.

Well Dag and I had some free time last night at work so we decided to play show dog.

I am planning on bringing him to Richland and hope he does well. I'm very pleased by how he's growing up and hope that he will continue to do well in the ring.

Mt Vernon, Dog park and Swimming

This weekend Dag and I got to meet up with Keith and Jo from Stormridge Cardigans at the Mt. Vernon Show. Dag was very excited to see the rest of his family and I was happy to be able to show them the progress that the poopy and I were making. I am very pleased with how Dag is turning out and can't be more thankful that they have entrusted me and my husband with this great boy.

Dag showed well on Saturday and Sunday going 1st place over Bode his brother and also getting reserve both days. Lucy finished Saturday and then went up against her Daddy Pi on Sunday.

After having to be a super clean boy for two days we took everyone to the dog park and let them have some much needed play time. They definitely wore themselves out and enjoyed time together.

Monday of course was the fourth so we kept it pretty quiet although I did have a few people out at the lake with me. Not to be forgotten, I took the dogs to the lake on Tuesday to let them play to their hearts content. Dag has not taken to the water as much as Jasmine but he's getting the hang of it. Jasmine is a fish and you can't keep her out of the lake. She also LOVES it when you put her on the floating dock and let her jump off of it. Dag seeing this swam the whole 10 feet to the floating dock and I helped him up. He then proceeded to just trot around on it and watch Jasmine be a goof. I keep the floating dock in so that the young family members can climb up on it so it only sits in like 4 feet of water. Perfect for me (the family midget) and the youngins.

I must say I do love the pictures of Jasmine flying into the water and Dag gaiting.

So Dag is all cleaned and ready for the show tomorrow so I thought I should get some updated pictures for everyone. Please excuse the poofy butt as I'm hoping it will finish going down by tomorrow(he had just been blow dried). I think over all the pictures turned out okay I prefer his Right side picture to the left mainly because I don't think he's stretched enough on the Left. I still can't decide which Front I like better maybe someone can give me some pointers.

Well I've decided to pull Jasmine from her agility trial :( I know it's the best for her but darnit I really wanted to take her. She's been so bummed that she's been on house arrest I figured she'd bounce right back but alas, I can dream right? So I guess I'll sit down at the computer again and figure out when I should potentially enter her again.

Silly girl just had to hurt her poor foot again.

Busy Summer.

Well this spring has already been busy and it looks like summer will continue the trend. Right now I have 2 dogs, 2 adult cats, 1 8 week old kitten and 1 3 week old kitten in my house. I am up every couple of hours for bottle feeding (which I love), or letting the dogs out or feeding them. I've got my "show schedule" started for the summer, between Conformation with Dag and Agility with Jasmine I'm bound to stay busy. I actually have a number of a gentleman who trains Pems for herding and he only lives and works 20 minutes away ! :P so hopefully Dag and Jasmine will get some sheep work soon. I've signed back up for the gym, which is definitely needed as I am not getting the exercise I should working nights.

This weekend I"m off to Puyallup with Dag where he will hopefully be a good boy and not try to lick the judges to death. He is 8 months and full of himself and he must be the center of attention.

Two weekends from now is Jasmines Agility trial which I was looking forward to. Right now I'm debating on pulling her because I had to pull her from class for 6 weeks with a soft tissue injury ( x-rays were clear of any fractures) and yesterday after 2 weeks of no limping, decided to bang her foot again and intermittently limp. Grrrrrrr. I guess I have 2 weeks to see how she does, I was just really excited to get her back out in the ring. And she so misses class, every Monday she looks at me, looks at the garage door like "class???" She doesn't understand why we haven't been on long walks, rollerblading or beach trips :( Sad corgi.

Hopefully a little Rimadyl and a couple more days of bed rest and she'll be good as new. She's so close to her NAJ, one more Q and we'l have it. Stinking foot.

Well I guess I should go back to cuddling my pooches as they snooze by my feet.

Lets just say I had a long long night at work and made a very "special" friend.

Now lets begin.

I want to say thank you to all of the good breeders out there that realise that sometimes whelping doesn't go as planned. I thank you for having the forsight to think ahead and PLAN for the unexpected. I thank you for being thoughtful enough to be financially responsible for your endever in breeding. I thank you for being intelligent in your breeding practices to not breed a HUGE dog to a small bitch and think that everything will go smoothly every time. I thank you for breeding dogs for the love of the breed, not because you just happen to have a boy and a girl dog and want to see the miracle of child birth. The miracle of child birth can be seen on TLC all throughout the day and it's much cheaper.
I thank the breeders who understand that Veterinary medicine, especially Emergency, is a buisness and services rendered equals payment. I thank those who do not get upset at the person on the other end of the phone when they have been walked through the entire labor process and when are told that ok now we have an emergency, they don't go BONKERS and loose their heads.
I thank the good breeders, who have done their research and know what to expect and know what could inevitably happen and plan for it. I thank those of you who do not spend all night talking to the Emergency attendant about things that have nothing to do with the dog in labor who needs a c-section. I thank those of you who when they do call do not put me on speaker phone with the entire room, it's just very irritating. I thank those of you who understand that yes you can tell the sexes of the puppies the moment they are born. The penis and vagina do not magically appear days after birth. ( I hit my head on a wall for that one).

And last but not least.
I thank you all for breeding for quality not quantity.

Alright I'll stop ranting now.
I am waiting for my 3rd call tonight though about a dystocia as last night I had two!

So today we got our grooming table and a bunch of new toys for summer, life vests included. Dag thought that the grooming table was SUPER fun since we've been practicing at work on our treatment tables. Every time he gets on our table at work he's like "cookies??" Ours at work is hydrolic (sp?) and is always on the floor so he hops right up and stacks himself :) such a good boy.

Anyway, here are some better pictures of him from today. Don't worry. I am actually in the picture I just magically took myself out. He will not be taking any flying lessons.

So I know Keith and Jo have wanted to see some updated pictures of Dag so here they are. The first ones are from today at work. They are not the best pictures of him due to them being a little at an angle but he was good for them. The second set are on Facebook and are from him at 5 1/2 months. He is a little stretched and one is a little blurry but taking pictures by yourself is a little hard :)

I did post new videos of him gaiting, they are from 3-16-11 and today.

Just passing the word along for two corgis that need new forever homes. The first one posted above is a male corgi in the Marion County Dog Shelter.

It has also come to my attention that there is someone on Craigslist trying to rehome a Pemi in a Cart. If anyone knows anyone who would be willing to take in this 3 year old please contact the person @ 208-964-4278. She comes with all her stuff, cart included. The add does not state whether or not she is a DM dog or an IVDD (intravertable disk disease) dog. Although she is free to the right home.

Well it's official

oh how I have missed thee.

Anyway, since we have internet at home again I can actually upload pictures, movies etc to my page so everyone can stay updated on how Dag and the Fish stick are doing.

At the moment I am at work so I'm going to make this brief. I uploaded video's of Dag and Jasmine to YouTube so go check them out and critique me and my handling or lack of handling skills. Please disregard the fact that I am in scrubs as this is what we do at night when we're slow. Hey it beats scrubbing the walls with toothbrushes.

So as you've all probably already seen on the Storm Ridge page, Dag (formerly Darton) has come to live with us and become a show puppy. We drove Saturday to meet with Keith and Jo to pick up this wonderful boy and none of us were disappointed. Dag is fitting in just fine and Jasmine thinks it's her long lost brother. All these two have done for the last couple days was to play, wrestle and play some more. We are so happy to see these two doing so well and we are so thankful of Keith and Jo.

Happy Valentines Day!

Jasmine and I want to wish everyone a Happy Valentines day!

She is celebrating by spending her day working on a Peanut butter filled bone and playing with the kitties. We have two extra kitties in the house now as I'm a sucker for kittens and a sucker for special needs too.

Teeter and Totter, as they're named, are two 6 month old FIV + kittens, who are awaiting their new forever home and until then they can live here. I love how when I tell people that they have FIV (including my husband) they become very concerned that my other two cats will become infected. Honestly it's hard to transfer FIV unless your cats fight and draw blood. When I was a kid we had a FIV + cat who lived with 3 other cats and no one else ever became positive, so as long as your kitties don't fight you have nothing to worry about. FIV cats do have a tendency to have a decreased immune system, think HIV in humans, so I make sure that they get supplements and a very good diet. I feel very blessed to give these kittens a healthy and happy home until they can find a home of their own. Jasmine might be a little sad when they leave as she is enjoying cuddling with them, she really does love her kitties.

On another note I am happy to say that my good friend Mia has finally opened her Bakery in my home town. She has constantly been bringing treats for us at work and now I can finally go get some myself whenever I want. :) YUM. She specializes in cakes for special occasions, birthdays, weddings, parties etc, and they are amazingly delicious. If I lived closer I would be much fatter because I would eat there every day. Well off to go do some cleaning up after kitties and feed the wild birds. Maybe the birds will keep the kitties occupied enough to stay out of stuff.

The title says it all. I honestly think that tonight couldn't be any more boring at work. Not that that is a bad thing, I mean me being bored at work means that all of the kritters in the town are safe and healthy at home but boy does it make for a boring night. Normally I have my book or my bag of entertainment to keep me busy for 14 hours but alas, I ran out the door last night with out it and am starting to get a little stir crazy. Atleast I remembered my dinner :)
Thankfull Jasmine always comes to work so we've been working on heeling, stupid dog tricks, playing fetch, searching for treats and well trying not to fall asleep. We've also been sitting here reading the paper, the random magazines, blogs and wishing more people were awake at 3 in the morning. I guess I should get back to doing.... well nothing as staff start to show up again in a 1/2 hour. YAY civilization!

Oh my it's been a long time since I've been on here. There is so much to catch up on.
First things first, Ben and I bought a house! Yup a house of our very own and boy do we (and the animals) LOVE IT. We went from a whole 600 sqft to 2600 sqft. I almost don't know what to do with myself, Almost. I finally have my own pet room/relaxation room. Yes I know those two are almost an oxymoron but I do enjoy my time with the sometimes annoying cats. It's nice to have them have their cat tree and litter box out of the main house area. Don't worry, they still have access to the whole house, but those kitties get into everything and with people delivering things all the time it's nice to have a room that I can put them in for the afternoon and not worry about them peeing on something because their mad. Jasmine also shares this room, she has her crate, another dog bed (which she normally shares with Hazy aka Demon Spawn) and oh yah my husband said she needed another bed so..... she has a TWIN BED, yes you read that right a HUMAN twin bed that is on the floor just for her, sheets/comforter/pillows and all. Well wouldn't you know she would much rather sleep with mom and dad on the brand new Sleep number bed! >) Spoiled? Sometimes.
The house also has an office that Ben can work out of... Can because well it's been a MONTH and I still do NOT HAVE INTERNET! For Nerds like us that's pretty much a reason to go completely postal and take out everyone at the ISP, but we are rational nerds and we only kill zombies and the such, so I guess the installers are safe, for the moment. >( So without Internet or TV, we have resorted to watching shows on our computers, dvd and the such. It's nice to be able to watch a full season of something in a night, but the same shows get old after awhile.
Jasmine is very happy with the new house as she has a full acre to play in and as soon as spring comes it will be fenced in for her enjoyment. Right now Frapping outside consists of Flexi time or going to G'ma's. She has also learned that she can do a HUGE figure eight in our house between the animal room and the living room so on super rainy days when she doesn't really want to go outside, she and Hazy see who can run the fastest around the living room. I'm pretty sure Hazy wins because she is like lightning.
Other than the house, Ben is taking over more Management responsiblilities at his work, he's already Engineering Manager but because he's so amazing at his job they're giving him more :)
I'm finally at the point in my Vet Tech career that I can apply to become a Licenced Vet Tech and hopefully by this time next year I'll have my licence, or shortly afterwards. This is something I've been wanting for a long time and due to Life I chose to do 5 years of on the job training versus 2 years of schooling, but I'm happy with my decision.
I've probably forgotten a bunch else that has happened but it probably wasn't that important.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season. And please please please, keep the puppies away from Chocolate. I've seen and smelt too many chocolate dogs already this year.

Ok so this week must be making up for all the lack of emergencies last week. Tonight has been pretty steady with minor emergencies which is good, it keeps me busy but Oh.... Bad Bad Puppies!
The last two nights we have had two seperate 12 week old puppies(different breeds, but both 12 pounds) come in because they jumped the wrong way and broke the toes in their left foot. Now how randomly strange is that? I'm expecting one more tomorrow night as emergencies tend to come in threes. First puppy was a Cattle dog mix, this one is a Ausi.... next one I'm guessing a Kelpie? Corgi? Idk I'm just counting the hours till this puppy goes home because it obviously has not been socialized to being in a crate, it's a submissive pee'er, has been screaming at the top of its lungs for 5 HOURS because it's in a kennel, is on a sedative and heavy duty pain med! OMD the Dr finally was like, just let it out of the kennel and let it sit with you because it's driving us both crazy.
Thank fully I always bring some of Jasmine's "busy" toys with her like kongs and brain teaser toys so I've loaded those up with food and locked the puppy and I into a little receptionist closet and am doing paperwork. I'm doing my best not to get up and make too much noise and ignore the annoying puppy.
With that said.....
THANK YOU CAROLYN SO MUCH for making Jasmine such a well rounded puppy from the beginning. I'm so glad we never went through a night like this with her, she's always been such a good girl and unfortunately she's not with me at work tonight otherwise maybe she could keep the puppy occupied. Oh wait, I think the puppy is , yup napping. Hopefully she'll fall into a deep sleep and I can just take my shoes off and finish some stuff in the other room.
Oh and to everyone with a puppy around 12 weeks of age. PLEASE lock up your puppies tomorrow as I do not really want to splint another left leg on a herding dog :)

Ok so let's start by saying Ben and I are finally purchasing a house and he's agreed that Ms Jasmine Fishstick needs a play mate, Tarter Sauce.. JUST KIDDING, he's got the naming dogs after food out of his system I promise. But on a more serious note I am looking into getting another puppy sometime soon and so I've been doing back ground research on Cardiridge Red Hot Lover so I went to Cardiped and typed in Jasmine's name and I think they know something I don't know cause her name came up as Baledwr SN Jasmine Fishstick NA NAJ... We did have an agilty trial a couple weeks ago but she decided to go retard on me, be afraid of the judge and messed up pretty bad so I didn't think she Q'd.. But maybe she did. Idk. I was frustrated so I pulled her for the rest of the day and I'm glad I did because the next day I realised she had crystals in her urine again which is probably part of why she was screwing around, she didn't feel good.
Anyway Jasmine is back on her Methioform to disolve any crystals and Dad and I have remade the rule of NO PEOPLE FOOD for the CORGI! NONE! She's fine when she just gets her diet and her specific treats but damn the grain gods they mess up her PH every time. Thankfully the local petstore just had their yearly sale of buy one get one 1/2 off so we stocked up on food for her and her kitty friends.

So... anyone know of any potential Red litters in the making? I know I know, harder to come by but the man of the house preffers reds. I keep trying to make him look at the beautiful blues but he says their eyes suck peoples souls from them LOL.

Oh my what a weekend! Jasmine and I had a wonderful time on Saturday as we met up with the Corgi's R Us from Meetup.com for a wonderful beach party. We all went to the Double Bluff park on Whidbey Island. As you can see from the pictures there were many many corgis there, about 20, and the one labrador. Needless to say Jasmine was very wet, very sandy and very tired by the end of the day. I am very happy to say that she was a very good girl.

How many corgis can you get staring at a ball at the same time?

Saturday was a wonderful day. Jasmine, Ben, Danya ( my sister-in law) and I all headed down to Ewetopia in Roy, Washington for the Pembrook club's Herding Instinct Test.

First thing Jasmine got to do was play with all the Pems. She was so happy to have someone her own size to play with. There were over 30 entries in the test so she had plenty of pups to play with.

And now for Jasmine. She was so excited the whole time watching everyone else, since she was a Cardi she was at the end but boy did she put on a show for everyone!

As soon as the sheep were released she brought them right up to the shepherd and never let them leave her side, no matter what.

I love this shot as she's "wooing" at the sheep.

Jasmine never let the sheep leave her side. Every time the trainer tried to get the sheep to split, Jasmine automatically put them back in a herd. I'm so proud of my girl . Thank you Carolyn sooooo much!

A Doggie day at the river

Well today was surprisingly amazing. What more can I ask for 80 degree weather, well 77 but close enough, 6 dogs, a cool river and family time? I spent the whole day at my parents out on the river visiting and doing laundry. Jasmine got the best part of the deal though, a full day of fun and swimming with her favorite "siblings".

Her day started with an hour of ball time! With 6 dogs, it takes a while to get them all their ball time and semi-warn out. Jasmine as you can see needs more mouth, ball co-ordination ;P

Then since everyone was nice and warm we walked a little ways down the driveway to the river. Jasmine thinking she's a Labrador dove right in.

Then when "grandma" found a stick it was time for fetch time! As you can see the Shorted-Brains LOVE to play fetch! Jasmine on the other hand would rather be digging up rocks, which on this beach there is definately no shortage of them.

House Bill 79, sponsored by Representative Barbara Sears of Lucas County, removes the term "pit bull" from Ohio’s statutory definition of dangerous dogs. All Ohio residents are encouraged to contact the Speaker of the House and their legislators to ask them to support this important measure and end 20 years of discrimination against responsible dog owners in Ohio.
Ohio is currently the only state to have enacted statewide breed-specific laws. The current law states that if a dog "belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull", then it is automatically considered vicious and dangerous. Owners of these dogs must submit reports to the board of health and county dog warden whenever there is a transfer of ownership.
Breed-specific language in state law has also enabled local Ohio municipalities to enact strict ordinances regarding ownership of "pit bulls" and has led to the ban and euthanasia of numerous dogs in communities throughout the state.
The American Kennel Club strongly supports House Bill 79 and recognizes that dangerous dogs should be defined by their deeds, not their breed. The AKC urges communities to establish a fair process by which specific dogs may be identified as "dangerous" based on stated, measurable actions, impose appropriate penalties on irresponsible owners, and establish a well-defined method for dealing with dogs proven to be dangerous.
The AKC strongly opposes any legislation that determines a dog to be "dangerous" based on its breed or type, and applauds the Ohio representatives who seek to remove this discriminatory language from state law. The AKC encourages Ohioans to contact their legislators and members of the House Agriculture committee and ask them to support this measure.

Ok it's official! I am officially an Emergency Veterinary Technician!!!!!!
I just accepted a job at my old Emergency Clinic as a night technician. Its great for me as I hate getting up early in the morning and I stay up all night long anyway. And I only work 3 days a week! That means 4 full days including the weekend to do whatever I want ;) Most importantly I get my own paycheck, which means MORE DOG SHOWS!

Jasmine is such a good dog! Not only did she Q'd in both novice classes but she got 1st in both!!! For her second time out I'm just amazed. She really surprised me. In the Jumpers class she really really wanted to go see the helpers in the ring, but after calling her she just stared at them as she ran around the ring ;P We need to work on her weaves as she didn't want to do offside, but that's something to work on. She finished in 52.46 seconds.

Her Standard course was much better. I thought she would totally blow the table but she jumped up on it, sniffed it and sat right down, although she nervously glanced at the judge who was standing behind me the whole time.

She got her weaves the first time , YAY, and she just ran her little heart out having fun. She finished in 52.13 seconds.

And now for the pictures, unfortunately most pictures were blurry as the settings on the camera were wrong :( I must remember to check the settings before I leave for the next show.

On a sad note one of our much loved Leukemia Positive kittens at Purrfect pals passed away yesterday. Wolfie was a part of the shelter's Leukemia Birthday party last year. She was 2 years old, ancient for a Leukemia Kitten.

Well it's official Jasmine is entered for the Boston Terrier agility trial at Argus in Auburn at the end of the month. I'm hoping that she'l do good as her first trial she got 3 Qs ;P

On another note Jasmine really wants to know when we're going to get some kittens back in the house for her to play with. My most recent litter, in November all went to their new homes happy and healthy. Her favorite kitten Loki got adopted by our friends and comes over every now and then for kitten/doggy play time with Hazzard my little demon child and Jasmine. Jasmine promptly gives her a bath and then gets excited and wants to play.

Beach Party!

So today my friend Noel and I took Jasmine to the beach to go play in the low tide. Unfortunately we didn't spend too long there as I forgot I left the house in HIGH HEELS! Definately not the best idea. Anyway Jasmine spent her time jumping in and out of the surf getting nice 'n' dirty. Digging holes after big rocks was the next best thing she thought. All of this lead to her getting a bath when she got home but she thinks it was worth it.

Just wanted to update everyone on my ol gal Razzie. I let her go to the rainbow bridge yesterday as her kidneys were not doing so hot. She lived a wonderful two years here with us and now she's free to go play all day in the fields with my other doggies :)

Please welcome the newest addition to the family, Miss Hazy.. aka Hazard.. and not as in Dukes of Hazard, as in "a hazard to your health." She was a 3 week old kitten that I brought home from work for 1 night to bottle feed and Emmy the cat hating cat decided that she liked her so we said Ok lil one you can stay. She's now about 8 1/2 weeks old, has been spayed, chipped and whatnot and is new best friends with Jasmine and Emmy.

Ok so this weekend was mine and Jasmine's first ever Agility compitition. We entered into Novice Jumpers with weaves(NJWW) and Novice Standard (NS) both days, so 4 total runs. Well the first class NJWW Jasmine of course ran around like a goof ball just as expected she did finish the course but not after running to see her aunti Tiffany and taking a few goes at the weave polls. An obvious NQ.
The second run was much better. She ran the entire course properly with the exception of the weaves which she entered inccorrectly but managed to finish with a score of 90 and 1st PLACE!!! We later found out that the weaves were set at 20 inches not the 22 and 24 inches that we practice at.
The second day we did AWESOME! We did both NJWW and NS finishing respectivly with 100pts and 90pts, both being 1st place :) I laughed when I looked at the time she did the jumpers course at 31.4 seconds for a 105yrd course, she was FLYING. She was still bookin it on the Standard course doing it in 56.2 seconds for a 149yrds with the 5 second down included.
Watch out agility crew here we come!

Ok so some of you know that I work at a no kill cat shelter called Purrfect Pals and if you didn't you know now. Anyway I thought I would share with everyone the cute adorable sweet spoiled kittens that live at the shelter. Yes I said live. They are not up for adoption and unfortunately will live the rest of their short life in a room with 20 other cats until they cross the rainbow bridge. These cute adorable sweet kittens are Feline Leukemia positive. They have all been tested multiple times to make sure that the readings were not false. These kittens were given a horrible disease that will rob them of their life at a young age. If we are lucky they'll make it to 1 year, we're amazed if they make it to 2 years and if they make it to 2 years the chances are they will live until they are seniors spending the rest of their lives in the shelter. But making it to 2 isn't their only hurdle. Being as they have a lowered immune system their system will be subject to various upper respiritory infections(URI), eye infections, anemia etc but we will take care of them and treat them to the best of our abilities. These diseases are nothing that anyone can prevent as approximently 90% of the healthy population of cats have some type of URI that is just dorment in them and only shows signs in imune deficiant or stressed cats.

Now don't get me wrong it's not a horrible place to live, they have their own room, multiple cat trees, ourdoor play areas ( in the spring/summer) visitors on a daily basis, room service :) etc, but I'm just disgusted that this is a completly preventable disease and that more people aren't vaccinating against it. We've taken in 3 seperate litters of kittens and 3 adult cats this year alone that have all tested FELV (leukemia) positive. Now that just sucks. This could all be prevented by a simple vaccine.

I guess the one good thing about this is that these adorable kittens don't know what I know and never will. Thankfully they just get to live their lives, however short they may be, as spoiled rotten little kittens who get the joy of having us bend over backwards to make them as happy as they can be.

Well I've been a bad blogger. Really though I've had a very hectic life lately between work, family, my grandmother passing and everything else you can possibly think of throwing into the mix. Jasmine is doing WONDERFUL in agility. She has finally figured out the weaves , even though she still tells me the entire time how annoying the stupid weaves are, and is doing them on both sides now. Her first match should be in June, we'll be doing novice and hopefully she won't want to visit the judges the entire time. Kinda hard sometimes to keep her on track when there are people who just might have a cookie in their pocket, we're gonna have to break her of that.

The hubby bought me a new camera as our old one just can't keep up with the rocket dog. She's so dang fast that no matter what the setting on it you just get a blur. Our new camera (Nikon d-200) is wonderful although there are a TON of buttons to learn about. I'm slowly getting it down and have been practicing with the old dog, mainly cause she doesn't move at the speed of light and she's very photogenic although I'd love to get a picture where her tongue is actually in her mouth ;P Anyway life goes on as usual, wonderful kitten season has arrived and we are starting to get bombarded with kittens again :) I'll have to post some pictures of the lil monsters soon as we are getting some wonderfully cute babies in.

November/December Catch up

Wow November really went by in a flash and now December is almost over. How time flies.
Well there is a lot to catch up on. I've been working a little less lately thanks to having a full clinic staff. So I've been having more time to take the dogs out and work them and let them play.

Less work=more time for agility, which is going really well except that Jasmine STILL does not want to do off side weaves.. which is VERY VERY annoying. She'll do them just fine in practice runs (no course just random obsticles) and what not but as soon as you start your course she's like... "Hmmm Nah I'm just going to stand here and bark at you till you go to the other side, then I'll still bark at you but I'll do them". Naughty dog ;P She is doing wonderful though.

Last week in the middle of her second run on the course she tripped coming off the teeter (don't worry no injuries), then gathered her footing and cleared the following jump even though it was only about 4 strides infront of the teeter. I was laughing so hard because it looked like something out of a 3 Stooges skit and she just kept going. I just ended up running and pointing to obsticles amist the laughing and finished the whole course without knocking anything over. Glad it was just a practice lesson otherwise we would have been the laughing stock at a trial. Soon enough though. I'm pretty sure when we get her weaves stronger I'll be able to feel confident in putting her into a trial and not turn it into a Frap session.

A couple weeks ago I went out to my parents house and let Razzie run with the boys and the rest of the pack to get some socialization and exercise. Well it turns out she could care less about the boys but when it comes to ANY female dog being near her she turns into something out the exorcist, hair on end and everything. Pretty much confirming my ongoing theory that she's just a cranky ol' bat who's female dog aggressive. Horray! *note the sarcasm

On top of the pretty much confirmed female dog aggression, she's been noticeably less responsive to comands, less energetic, and having more and more mood swings. Pretty sure she's starting to lose it. She's now starting to take Anipril which is a medication to help slow the process of becoming senile, although I don't know how far we will let the Mood swings progress, especially if she endangers the cat. The dogs are seperated 99% of the time, which sucks by the way.

We will continue to make her comfortable and happy as long as we can.

On a better note, we, like the rest of the PNW, have been getting SNOW! Oh the dogs just love it. Well the first night they did. Jasmine and Razzie were both enjoying sniffing it and running around in it but now I'm pretty sure they're ready for the snow to go so they don't get the back end cold when it comes to potty time. Snow's suposed to be here till after christmas but we'll see.

Meowing Guest

So we had a visitor last weekend. I've promised Ben that I would not bring my work home with me. Work being kittens. Well I didn't bring kittens home I brought A kitten home, see BIG difference. It was just for a couple days mainly because the kitten needed round the clock care, meds, force feeding etc. Jasmine and Razzie were quite interested in this "thing" as neither of them have seen kittens in the house before. Emmy the cat doesn't count because she acts more like a dog than a cat, although she was NOT amused by this meowing annoying kitten. All the kitten did was meow, kneed your leg and try to cuddle with the dogs. Although when she realised that it was a dog she slapped it and hissed, then went right back to rubbing on the dog. Maybe she has very bad short term memory.Needless to say after 3 nights of this kitten it was well enough to go back to work and the house returned to the norm.

After everything calmed down a little Emmy and Jasmine got to go out for a nice walk up the driveway to get the mail. Yes my cat goes outside on a leash.She was hand raised by humans, not raised with other cats and the time that she was allowed outside she almost was eaten by something and we had to stitch her back together so she's an indoor only kitty. All this being said she's not very bright and WILL be eaten by something if allowed to go outside by herself. (yes I know I'm the crazy overprotective cat lady, I'm quite aware) We have some roaming dogs, bobcats, deer and other strange nocturnal creatures that she would not be able to fend off, so outside time is on a leash. My neighbors get a kick out of it, especially in the summer when she's outside sitting on the floating dock sunning herself while we go swimming. Yes she's a very strange cat.

Another day another Agility course

So we've had two more lessons since our last post. They've both gone surprizingly well. I really am waiting for her to decide that she just wants to be crazy and Frap around the course.
We are in pre-novice class but our courses are Excellent courses. Basically the thinking is if we can do excellents we should be able to Ace the Novice courses. In theory this will work if we can actually remember the whole thing. I wish we had big flags with the #'s on them, it would help but they have little like 4 inch cones with the #'s on them which is hard to see when you're running around at a million miles an hour trying to keep up with the dog.
Jasmine did very well able to do the weaves better, we're working on doing offside entry, which is confusing her and she barks at me to tell me that Hey your supposed to be on the other side of me mom! Our biggest mishap was of course Handler error. The first have and the second have have 3 same obstacles, a tunnel, a jump and another tunnel. The first half is Tunnel, jump tunnel. the second half is Jump, tunnel, tunnel. Well I kept trying to send her Jump Tunnel tunnel in the first half and she kept doing Tunnel jump jump. I was getting very frustrated and then someone pointed out I was asking her to do it backwards and since we had done it correctly once before, she was telling me mom you are telling me to do it wrong, I'm doing it right. Silly me. She still got cookies and a tug toy cause she did it right and I did it wrong.
We also worked on the serpentine which we haven't done in a very very long time and out of the entire class of 9 dogs, we were the only one who nailed it on the first try :) Yay for Corgi memory. My biggest "fear" obsticle is the Teeter. She does it great but last year she decided to do the SUPER CORGI off it at top speed and scared me to death. I'm really bad at telling her easy before it making her slow down. Asking a dog to slow down who does flying contacts tends to slow down your times and makes the dog more tired because they have to make up for the lost momentum. Well I'm going to have to work on trusting the dog and not my crazy voice in my head.
Well. Off to bed. Work calls bright and early.

Back to Agilty after a YEAR off

So Monday was Jasmine's and my first day back to Agility class since last year. This has been because of my work schedule, class schedule etc/etc. Thankfully though, last Valentines day I came home to "home made" to AKC standard Weave Poles and a 12 inch variable height jump. Well over the past year we've created a small dog agilty area up the property to keep the equipment on and have an area other than the front yard to practice in.
Anyway....
So Monday. I'm thinking, she's not been to class in a year, she's gonna go BANANAS when she sees Julie ( one of her favorite people-mainly for the cheeze), our trainer. Not to mention that there are soo many obsticles that she loves that she has not done in sooo long. We started out the class by doing a Novice course including a tire and the A Frame. Frame, never has been a problem. The tire, that's a compeletly different story. I'm a corgi, I'm short, I can easily go under that why should I go through it. Well we didnt even warm up on the course we just went. and BOY did SHE FLY. I forgot how fast that girl is. She was probably 12 feet infront of me and I'm just yelling obsticles and pointing and she nailed every single one of them. She did Cross infronts/behinds, went through the tire (first try) through the tunnels and finished without knocking a single bar down. Oh we were sooo happy and yes she did bark the entire time.
The next session we did included the A Frame, Weaves, Tire, broad jump and again many many jumps. The entire set went really really well until.... the weaves. :( Definately need to pull them out and work on them some more. She has the concept down but exicution is a different story. She breaks or does the I'm a Corgi, Why should I thing. Very irritating. Either way the day ended on her being able to run around like a lunatic jumping every jump in sight. I can't wait for a match, she will do very very well in a jumpers class.
Well that's all for the moment. We will continue our work with weaves and hopefully do better next week.

Well as you can see it's been a long time since we've posted. The summer has already come and gone but let me catch you up on the girls. Ms. Jasmine has decided that buterflies also known as "boo flies" are very very yummy and a ball to chase. She finally has got the jump in the air and bite at them down to an art and is catching them on a regular basis. I think the cooler weather is finally slowing them down enough for her to catch them.

Not only did Jasmine have a good time this summer playing with butterflies, she also has been tempted again by our resident duck "Peepers" and her batch of ducklings. This is the first time Peepers has had a batch of ducklings live to adulthood. All previous babies have been picked off by the Offsprey before they had the chance to grow. These ducks are unfortunately very very tame mainly due to Peepers being raised by my neighbors a couple years ago, so they tend to live on the property during the summer time. Being tame though does have its good points, upclose and personal pictures. Jasmine was not pleased at this photoshoot as I made her down stay for about 1/2 hour while I took photos.

Summer has ended and fall is here, time for our Halloween Dress up :) Unfortunately they do not make "Corgi" sized costumes. Here is the costume I got for Jasmine, a medium which I thought would be long/large enough for her. http://apparelandaccessories.petedge.com/assets/product_images/styles/medium/ZA539_230X230.JPG Well I was wrong, it doesn't fit her, doesn't fit Razzie very well BUT it does fit the cat :) Yes the cat is wearing the costume. Emmy is a very good kitty and doesn't mind being kitty tourtured as long as there are treats and pets.

How to make a corgi a giraffe

Okay so poor Razzie has hotspots, again! I have been treating them at home but today they were getting beyond home-care so off to work we went. We ended up clipping her naked, cleaning her, getting an antibiotic shot, getting more antibiotics to go home, and turned her into a giraffe in the process.

Lets just say that she is not amused. She is spending most of her time hiding under Bens computer chair sulking. Thankfully this is only for a couple days till the antibiotics kick in full force and they're not so itchy. I've decided that the hot spots are seasonal. Food changes haven't made a big difference, and they come about around the season changes. So I'm gonna blame them on pollen.

If you're wondering why she has a cervical collar on and not an elizabethan collar (e-collar or cone collar) it's because the e-collar rubs right on the bottom of the hot spot. The Cervical collar just misses it and she can't reach her armpits or back leg , where more hot spots are :(

On another note. Jasmine is getting very good at stupid dog tricks. She knows the obvious ones, sit, stay, heel, come, etc. But she now knows her right foot from her left, left being her best side.

Snow?? It's March

Okay so yesterday I thought the weather was just a fluke. Like a strange thunderstorm rolling through, but no. We had snow/hail yesterday for like 5 hours, which the dogs loved.And you know you MUST play Frisbee in the snow. It makes it so much more fun.

Today I wake up to this crazy blizzard like snowstorm. Thankfully it's not huge flakes or anything but its still sticking to the ground. But seriously this is from yesterday, you could see across the lake:

Today you can see to the end of the dock. Woo hoo for snow! The girls have to go do their daily rounds around the front yard to make sure there are no evils (ducks) hiding in the lawn. You never know with all this white stuff falling from the sky.

Razzie actually caught one a couple days ago which impressed me. It's an amazing feat for an 11yr old girl with arthritis. All she caught here was a snowflake in her eye.

Thankfully I don't have to go back to work till Sunday.
No work means more time to play with the Corgwn children outside. Toss some snowballs chase ducks and all other things fun to snow loving Corgwn.

First Snow

So the weather man has been talking all week about snow. Well it finally hit, the little trace that we got the dogs very much enjoyed. They were out in it for a while frolicking and bouncing around. Jasmine was trying to eat it as it fell. She was not very pleased when the ducks, aka evils, showed up to try and crash her party but she didn't let them. She was very adamant about them not coming on the lawn. Silly girl.

This was the first time Razzie has been with us when it has snowed. I didn't know what she'd do, or whether or not she'd even want to go outside in the cold, she gets a little stiff in cold weather. She showed us that snow and cold weather don't faze her and she can play just like a pup. She kept trying to sniff the snow and got it up her nose quite a few times and then all you heard was corgi sneezes.

Tonight the snow is continuing to fall, almost 1/4 inch now and I don't think it's going to stop any time soon. The Corgwn should have a great Sunday running in the snow if this keeps up.

The importance of Thyroid testing.

We've had Razzie now for almost a year but we were still having some "aggression " issues with her and I was beginning to think that we were never going to be able to leave them alone without the fear of coming home to some bloodshed. Training was helping, NILIF rules were helping, but still every now and then we'd have a little spat and I couldn't trust Razzie with other dogs. I was beginning to think this was the way life for us was going to be.

I asked the Vets at work and they recommended various things from training to puppy Prozac etc, rechecking her thyroid (since she's already on thyroid meds.) to make sure she's at a good level. Well I decided to recheck her thyroid since it was a good start and it was over 6months since she was last rechecked. Well it turned out that her level was too low and she needed her meds upped. Well those of you with dogs with low thyroid levels know that they can be quiet moody and unpredictable.

I have had her medication changed for a little over 1 month and she is acting like a normal dog ( for the most part) and has even started playing. Maybe it's just coincidence or the medication but I personally don't care, I'm just happy that she can play with Jasmine and other dogs now without always trying to fight with them. Hopefully she will become a normal stable dog with a little more time and effort.

Great Agility Equipment for Corgi's

So I took a little trip to Ikea today and as I'm walking past the kiddy section I see something I have been searching for for a long time. A little inexpensive kiddy tunnel! It's the perfect size for Corgi's and I won't feel bad if they destroy it. I spent a whopping 18 bucks on it and it's perfect!My home made agilty course is now one step closer to being complete. Even the ol' girl is trotting through it. Jasmine on the other hand is flying through the thing each time she sees it opened up. Silly girl.
